27th Border Outpost – A Tale from the Fog is a social deduction LARP game about a group of unlikely people brought together to finish a job nobody wants.
Set on the northern border of the Kingdom of the Seven Hills, it follows the final day of a prolonged demining operation and the people sent to complete it – border guards, convicts and a few volunteers with little in common beyond the fact that they were the ones available.
As part of Tales from the Fog — a new line of standalone stories set within The Fog LARP universe — this game combines pre-written characters, layered roleplay and meaningful choices under pressure into an experience focused on people rather than heroes.
An outline of what to expect can be found below and in the Roles section of this site, but further details will be disclosed individually to each player once the character rosters for their run have been finalized.

I. SETTING

A Kingdom and its Borders
The year is 2022.
The Kingdom of the Seven Hills is one of the major powers of the known world — prosperous by local standards, proud of its military tradition and shaped by generations of conflict, expansion and uneasy peace. Its citizens are used to service, preparedness and the understanding that security rarely comes for free.
The world is still recovering from the Cataclysm and the crises that followed it. Nations rebuild, alliances shift and diplomacy remains as important as ever.
One such diplomatic mission is expected to enter the Kingdom through its northern frontier.
There is just one problem.
The planned route crosses an old defensive minefield.
In the Middle of Nowhere
Tasked with maintaining this isolated stretch of the border is the 27th Border Outpost — a neglected military posting commanded by Sergeant Georg Zumwalt and staffed by a mix of conscripts and career soldiers. Far removed from glory, its personnel spend more time surviving routine, shortages and bureaucracy than preparing for battle.
For six days, the personnel of 27th Border Outpost and a group of volunteered civilian auxiliaries have been attempting to clear a safe passage through the area. Progress has been minimal.
The unit that laid the explosives no longer exists, parts of the original documentation are unusable and the remaining records are still being deciphered back in Plovdiv.
Operation “Thunderous Owl”
Now a direct order has arrived — by later tonight, the route must be opened for the arrival of a delegation from the Knyazdom of East Wind.
The Kingdom will remember whether the mission succeeded.
The people there will remember how.

II. GAMEPLAY

A Collection of Stories
Unlike most games in the Fog universe, 27th Border Outpost is played through a cast of pre-written characters.
During registration, you will be asked to select several preferred roles based on the information available in the Roles section and answer a few questions about your preferred playstyle. Once registration closes and the final roster for each run is assembled, every participant will receive an assigned role together with a personal character sheet prepared for them.
Each role appears only once per run and comes with its own unique set of goals, relationships and information.
Social Deduction in a Living World
At its core, 27th Border Outpost is a social deduction game.
Characters arrive with incomplete information, conflicting incentives and very different ideas about what success means. Cooperation may solve problems faster. It may also create new ones.
The game is designed around conversation, observation, trust, negotiation and resolve under pressure.
Demining and Decisions
The operation unfolds continuously throughout the event.
Players take part in a mixture of practical tasks, camp life, social interaction and mission-related activities while responding to changing circumstances and newly discovered information.
In 27th Border Outpost, your role is not to win.
Your role is to decide who your character becomes before the operation ends.

III. RUNS

The first two runs of 27th Border Outpost are scheduled for 10.10.2026 and 11.10.2026.
Each game starts in the afternoon and ends in the small hours of the next day, with total playtime varying slightly between playthroughs.
To reserve one of the 28 limited places available in each run, players may pay in full or pay the first of two installments.
Run Confirmation
27th Border Outpost is built around a fixed cast of unique pre-written roles. To function as intended, each run requires a minimum number of participants before it can be confirmed.
Each announced run must reach at least 20 signed-up participants by the run confirmation deadline — 30.07.2026.
Once confirmed, sign-up will remain open until 01.09.2026 or until all available places are filled.
If a run does not reach the required number of participants by the run confirmation deadline, it will not take place.
Replayability
The game has limited built-in replayability, but an equally enjoyable second playthrough is not guaranteed.
Players who decide to attend both runs should notify the team in advance in order to receive a separate briefing and adjusted character sheets.
This does not apply to players who only attended the game’s closed beta in 2022. Although the premise remains the same, the experience will be significantly different due to hidden mechanics and various quality-of-play improvements.
Future Runs
Additional runs are unlikely, but may be announced depending on interest and only after all previously announced runs have reached capacity.

IV. LOCATION

A Fitting Backdrop
The game takes place in the area of Novite Okopi (which translates to “The New Trenches”) near the town of Kuklen, approximately 30 minutes by car from Plovdiv.
Originally constructed as military earthworks and later reclaimed by nature, the area feels like a place built to watch a border long after the people who built it stopped watching.
Sparse woodland, old embankments and open terrain make it a fitting home for 27th Border Outpost — a forgotten military posting guarding a route that suddenly became important again.
Getting There
Driving is the easiest way to reach the location, with a well-maintained asphalt road available within walking distance of the game area.
Players are encouraged to coordinate transport among themselves.
If you’re a new player without a carpool option, feel free to use The Fog LARP community FB group, The Decent Games Discord Server or contact us and we’ll do our best to help connect you with a ride.
Please note: There will be no organized shuttle service.

V. Accommodation & FOOD

Accommodation
No accommodation is provided by the organizing team for this game.
Players may choose one of the following options:
- Camp in an unguarded camping area located near the offgame meeting point and parking area.
- Arrange accommodation independently in the surrounding area. Multiple options are available within 15 то 45 minutes by car from the play area which also includes Plovdiv itself.
- Drive home after the game ends.
However, keeping in mind the game’s late-night finale, we recommend arranging accommodation nearby rather than driving while tired.
Food & Water
The Outpost’s logistical support is integrated into the gameplay and players are not expected to bring food, water or equipment for preparing them.
Bringing additional snacks or water is completely allowed, especially if required for comfort, dietary needs or medical reasons.

VI. Q&A

27th Border Outpost is a social deduction LARP focused on pre-written characters, conversation, difficult choices and a continuously unfolding operation rather than combat or puzzle solving. Expect a mix of camp life, practical activities, social roleplay and mission-related tasks under pressure.
Both runs of 27th Border Outpost are bilngual and players will receive their character sheets in their preferred language. Please keep in mind the majority of players will be Bulgarian and there are no rules enforcing English speech.
